To be Korean, you have to know how to drink Soju.
Soju is a distilled beverage containing ethanol and water. It is Korea’s most well known alcoholic beverage.
WHY?
Because all Koreans drink it.
It’s cheap (each bottle costs about $6 to $12 at LCBO), has about 20% alcohol level, and it has different rules.
By now, we all know Korea has a very strict culture of respect and etiquette.
Follow these steps to drink green bottle the right way:
- When receiving a glass from an elder, you must hold the glass with two hands.
- When giving a glass to an elder, you must hold the bottle with your right hand and support your right arm with your left hand by placing it in on your right elbow.
- When you drink in front of an elder, turn away from him/her and cover your mouth and glass with hands.
- Be responsible. Don’t end up looking like this the next day.
Other than those FOUR simple rules, now you just enjoy drinking!
And the FOUR rules only applies when you’re drinking with an elder. If you’re drinking with a group of friends, no need to be all polite. And if you master the step in drinking, congratulations, you are officially 40% Korean.
